Girls In Technology (GIT) Program – Mentor Application 2023-2024

Girls in Technology (GIT) is led by a committee of women volunteers who are dedicated to initiating programs to excite, inspire and create awareness for girls interested in Technology.

Our vision is to significantly increase the number of girls who pursue Technology-focused education and ultimately join the ranks of other successful women in Technology careers.

Our mission is to engage and inspire girls in grades 6 through 12 in the D.C. Metro Region, especially underserved girls, to enable them to envision a path for education and career opportunities in STEM. Our programs will offer successful women role models, targeted education, endearing support and affinity. We will hold ourselves accountable to focus on GIT girls-first and foster diversity and inclusion (and belonging).

Mentor Protégé (MP) Program – 13th Year!
The Mentor Protégé Program connects girls with professional women mentors and like-minded girls for the purpose of identifying pathways to careers in Technology.  The program is for girls in grades 9 through 12 and includes five 2-hour evening sessions.  Our sessions offer networking and mentoring opportunities while featuring guest speakers / panelists who share their experiences on topics such as technical education and careers.  Sessions will be held in person at locations in Tysons Corner, VA and Rockville, MD.

Girls in Technology (GIT) is a committee under Women In Technology (WIT) which financially supports our programs. GIT's mission is to inform, inspire, and encourage middle and high-school girls to pursue careers in various technology fields. GIT’s seven core beliefs, shared with girls as keys traits for success, are: Passion, Self-Efficacy, Innovation, Collaboration, Empowerment, Critical Reflection, and Leadership.

The GIT Mentor Protégé Program is a forum for professional women, as role models with Technology backgrounds, to share their skills and passions to help encourage and motivate high-school girls to consider Technology-related career paths. Mentors and protégés will participate in group mentoring discussions that will often incorporate the GIT seven core beliefs for personal and professional growth. The average time commitment is 2 hours per month.

Our protégés are typically high school girls interested in learning about and/or pursuing a STEM career.

Our Mentor-Protégé sessions are held weeknight evenings, no more than once a month from October to March (please refer to the program schedule below).

Mentors are required to complete a brief online background screen by a third-party company and make every attempt to attend the virtual orientation and all FIVE in-person session dates.
